Last calendar month , our website crossed 10k pageviews / daily . Now , this is too much dealings for a blog hosted on shared hosting . Right ? So I begin looking for a better hosting design . And luckily thisblack Friday , I vex a sweet 80 % OFF deal on Hostgator and finally upgraded to their VPS hosting .
Now over the year , I have tried shared hosting from various host providers . And they all count the same , once you expend their control panel . But this not the case with VPS hosting . It ’s dissimilar . For instance , unlike shared hosting , the ascendance panel is different and you get full root access without any kind or restriction .
The migration part was easy . I used thefree website transferservice from Hostgator to move my files from previous shared hosting business relationship to new VPS hosting . Everything go smoothly . Next step was to update the nameserver . But that was little tricky .
Say you bought your domain and hosting from two unlike seller . Now how will your world know where to point ? How will you link both of them ?
Well , nameserver resolve this problem .
When you buy any hosting plan , you get 2 name server in the welcome email . You have to add those two records under your sphere nameserver mount . This way , your domain will know where the internet site is hosted .
likewise , if you convert your host , you have to update the name host as well . But the trouble is , the process of update name server in divided up hosting and VPS hosting is a bit different . For case –
Generic vs Private name server
In shared hosting , we habituate generic name server i.e. with it uses your host provider domain name . Likens123.hostgator.comandns124.hostgator.com .
But if you elevate to VPS or dedicated hosting parcel then you will get a secret nameservers i.e. with your domain name in it . Likens1.receivetipstricks.comandns2.receivetipstricks.com . It also has 2 IP computer address link up with each nameserver .
How to Add Name Server
Generic Nameserver
The steps are unlike for every domain registrar but here is a basic overview .
To update a generic name host , lumber in to your domain registrar internet site . Find the domain > look for amanager DNSoption > then depend forname serveroption > and get into the two name server that you get in your welcome email .
However , if you tote up your individual nameserver using the traditional room , you will get an error . This is because you will have to first map out your name waiter with the two IP address you get with it . This is done under hostname .
Again , the steps to tot private nameserver are different for every registrar , but if you using GoDaddy , here is how to do it .
Private Nameserver
Log into yourGoDaddy Account . Next to sphere , click theManage DNSoption .
A new windows will spread out , press setting > hostname > manage .
A popup will open . get across on add together hostname . Under hostname tab key character inns1 in the hostname field ( you do n’t have to type your domain name as it ’s already provided ) and then under IP address force field type in the tantamount hostIP savoir-faire .
Repeat the same cognitive process for the second hostname i.e. chatter on add hostname > character ns2 and it ’s tantamount IP address . Once done , deliver changes and your hostname will get file .
You will get a confirmation electronic mail from Godaddy instantaneously . However , sometimes it may take up to 2 - 3 hours to register a hostname , so be patient .
Now go to name server > manage > add your private name host . And remove the old name waiter . See the screenshot below .
And that ’s it . Now all you have to do is hold back . The name server extension can take up to 48 hours . But you’re able to see the result within an hour or so .
Also , do n’t cancel your old host until your certain , your nameserver generation is successful , Or some of your visitors may face problem
How to make certain you update the name server successfully ?
There is no prescribed way to do it . However , there are few workarounds .
Since you have changed your hosting , your internet site will have a young IP address right . Now , if you know your erstwhile and raw IP address ( both mention in the welcome email for host supplier ) then ping your websites .
If you see a Modern IP address it means the name server has updated successfully , else you have to either await or you did something wrong .
To knock your internet site from all around the world , useDNS checkerwebsite . If you pink your internet site immediately after kick upstairs your name host , chances are you will see both your old and new IP address of your website . Like in the screenshot below .
