Arriving in sentence for vacation travel and potentially fall back baggage , a newfangled feature that appropriate Apple AirTag owners to portion out the location of a lost item is now integrated with the customer religious service organization of two major airline . Unitedand Air Canada are the first launch partners for Apple ’s “ Find My Share Item Location ” characteristic , which allows someone who travels with either an AirTag or other Find My connection - connected accessory to use Apple ’s Find My app to share the location of their lost item with the airline ’s customer serving system to speed up the summons of locating lost or delayed luggage .
The feature article , now available with Apple ’s iOS 18.2 operating system for iPhone , iPadOS 18.2 for iPad , and macOS 15.2 on Mac , have customers generate a Share Item Location link from within the Find My app . The customer can then share that link with the customer service force tax with helping locate the missing bags .
The addition capitalizes on one of AirTags ’ more popular usance font . Consumers were already using the small trailing gimmick to see where their baggage was when traveling . In one recent case , the AirTag showed that a turn a loss dish was inside the drome , but United tell the client it was not — even saying to them that their system did n’t go by AirTags . The customer ’s baggage ended up then jaunt 30 miles away , conduct the customer to consider the employee steal the bag . Now , those character of incident should be less common , as United will , in fact , officially practice AirTag location as part of its client service efforts .
Apple says the tie generated are unassailable and private , and the location - divvy up expression will automatically end when the client is reunited with their mixed-up travelling bag . positioning - share-out can also be stopped by the customer at any time . In addition , the link will expire after seven days , give the airline plenty of time to locate and return the luggage . The appendage is also end - to - terminal encrypted so no one else , including accessory maker , will have access to the twist ’s placement or other personal information .
Many airline already offer systems for chase after luggage in their apps , making AirTags more of a supplement to their existing systems . The AirTag localization , however , could be used when the airway ’s luggage trailing system has it wrong .
While United and Air Canada are the first to confirm the feature , Apple say other airline partners are on the way .
antecedently , the iPhone maker say it had near 20 air hose queued up to desegregate with its organisation , include Aer Lingus , Air New Zealand , Austrian Airlines , British Airways , Brussels Airlines , Delta Air Lines , Eurowings , Iberia , KLM Royal Dutch Airlines , Lufthansa , Qantas , Singapore Airlines , Swiss International Air Lines , Turkish Airlines , Virgin Atlantic , and Vueling .
