Perplexity shot back at medium companies skeptical of AI ’s benefit in ablog postThursday , respond toNews Corp ’s suit filed against the startupearlier this week . The lawsuit alleged Perplexity engaged in big - graduated table copyright violation against Dow Jones and the NY Post . Several other medium organizations — including Forbes , The New York Times , and Wired — have madesimilar accusationsagainst Perplexity .

“ There are around three dozen lawsuits by medium companies against generative AI tools . The common theme sell by those complaints jointly is that they wish this applied science did n’t exist , ” said the Perplexity team in the blog . “ They prefer to live in a earth where publically reported facts are owned by corporations , and no one can do anything with those publically report fact without compensate a price . ”

In just over 600 word , Perplexity makes several highfaluting claims about the media diligence but does little to back up those claim with fact or evidence , saying , “ This is not the place to get into the weeds of it all . ” That said , the overall spirit represents a keen change from how Perplexity has previously employ with the media companies that power its AI search locomotive . In the post , Perplexity referenced an adversarial military capability between the media and tech , call this suit “ basically shortsighted , unneeded , and ego defeating . ”

Throughout the web log , Perplexity does not mention or speak the primal claim of the lawsuit : that Perplexity allegedly copy content at a massive graduated table from publisher , then competes with them for the same audience .

Perplexity instead asserts that medium companies like News Corp wish AI tools did n’t exist , a claim that ’s very hard to rationalize . News Corp is one of many medium fellowship that has amulti - year partnership with OpenAIto display the work of its journalists within ChatGPT . Perplexity itself alsoworks with several legacy media party — including Time , Fortune , and Der Spiegel — in a revenue share program . The facts propose that many media companies simply do n’t wish the deal Perplexity and other AI company are offering .

Later on , the inauguration focus on other claims mentioned in the causa . The first head is that News Corp is misleading people by saying Perplexity purge the full school text of articles . Perplexity also says it responded to outreach from News Corp , even though the lawsuit alleges the startup did n’t .

Another point here is completely speculative : Perplexity suspects that News Corp wo n’t really apply the “ salacious ” examples cited in its complaint in the literal sheath , advise these examples are somehow invalid . apparently , we ’ll have to wait until the case proceeds to see if that ’s truthful .
