OpenAI says it plan to let U.S. National Laboratories , the Department of Energy ’s net of R&D science laboratory , use its AI theoretical account for atomic weapon system security and other scientific labor .

Per CNBC , OpenAI will operate with Microsoft , its lead investor , to deploy a model on   the supercomputer at Los Alamos National Laboratory . The simulation will be a portion out resource for scientist from Los Alamos , Lawrence Livermore , and Sandia National Labs , OpenAI enjoin . It will be use across a number of inquiry programs .

One of those computer program demand nuclear defense , polemically . OpenAI says it will substantiate U.S. National Laboratories study focused on “ reducing the peril of atomic warfare and securing atomic material and weapons , ” and will offer researcher with protection clearance to consult on this .

“ This is the beginning of a Modern era , ” the caller wrote in ablog post , “ where AI will upgrade science , beef up national security , and support U.S. politics initiatives . ”
