Former NFL quarterback and civil rights militant Colin Kaepernick took the stage atTechCrunch Disrupt 2024on Wednesday to talk about the challenge facing people who desire to disrupt something — both inside and exterior of the tech world .
“ One of the big challenge that you will probably confront when you endeavor to disrupt something — or you sample to do something you ’re passionate about , and it ends up disrupting something in that process , is you face up a lot of resistance , ” Kaepernick said . “ There will be hard metre , and during those times , you want to have those people that you could be given on , the mass that can affirm you , and that ’s really what give you that endurance . ”
Kaepernick is no stranger to break up the status quo , as he made national headlines in 2016 when he take a stifle to resist racial injustice . The former NFL star says that while he face a lot of electric resistance , he also saw a push to create a skilful and more equitable time to come .
“ When you do that and you see such a substantial response to it , it really move over you linear perspective and brainstorm , ” Kaepernick say . “ We have such a long elbow room to go . But , the other part that I get word during that time period , there are also a luck of people that want to go that farseeing way with you , and I think that has been the beautiful part fare out of that is while there has been resistance to it , there ’s also been a plenty of organizing . ”
As someone who has had thousands of stories indite about him , he now wants to help creators take ascendence of their narration with Lumi . The startup is aiming to authorize creators by helping them severally create and release stories and content .
As for founder who are looking to disrupt and explore their passions , Kaepernick offered a few words of advice .
“ Do your prep and know why you ’re doing what you ’re doing , ” he allege . “ And then two , once you have it off that , go after it turbulently and go after it with everything that you have and land multitude with you . I would not be sitting here today and none of you would do it me at all if there were n’t a whole lot of people that help me along the fashion , and that ’s everyone from my wife to family and friends to teammates to coach , some of the investors and advisors that I ’ve had along the way . So have those people with you , because that makes us , that makes you sustainable for the long streak . ”
