So , if you have recently tack fromWindows 10toUbuntu , you would notice that the Alt+Tab group windows of standardised practical program . For example , if you have 3 window of the sameweb internet browser applicationrunning , Alt+Tab wo n’t let you switch between those window . Turns out , you have to use Alt+ ` to switch between windows of the same applications .
But , anathemise my muscleman memory of using Alt+Tab for years on Windows , I can not defy it . So , I found a way to separate windows of the same software in the tab whipper . So , here ’s how you do that .
How to Ungroup Windows in “Alt-Tab” in Ubuntu
The hardening up is moderately simple and you just have to remap aparticular keyboard shortcut . Similar to other configurations in Ubuntu , there are 2 ways to do it . One is the GUI way which is the leisurely and the other is the program line - line path .
1. GUI
We demand to edit keyboard crosscut in the configurations Menu . Hence , head over to the configurations menu and navigate to the Keyboard cutoff tab .
Alternatively , you could just search“Keyboard Shortcuts”on the GNOME launcher .
Within the keyboard crosscut and under the Navigation tab , you would find a shortcut called“Switch Windows ” .
tap the shortcut and it will enquire you to provide the hotkey . In our pillow slip , we will keep the hotkey as“Alt+Tab ” . press the Set winder to relieve this hotkey .
Once you have done this , now Alt+Tab would work as switching between Windows rather than Applications . Now , you would also see the window name instead of the lotion name in Tab whipper .
2. Command Line
If you had to do through program line - line , it ’s a single - line command . start the terminal and start the undermentioned command .
This command will activate the window switch shortcut and map it to the “ Alt+Tab ” hotkey . This will mechanically turn off the program switch hotkey . To revert back the change , just scat the following statement .
It will retrovert back to the old constellation . In compositor’s case alteration do n’t take consequence , re-start your system .
