After nearly 13 years in business , Fivetranwill now be able-bodied to offer its customer an end - to - remnant datum movement solution .

Fivetran , which helps enterprises move datum from a miscellany of sources into cloud database , announced on Thursday it has acquiredCensus , a inverse excerpt , transform , and load ( ETL ) platform that enables company to transfer data out of databases and into operational tool . Census was founded in 2018 and raised more than $ 80 million in venture funding from such firms as Sequoia , Andreessen Horowitz , and Tiger Global .

The term of the deal were not disclosed , but Census waslast valued at $ 630 million in 2022 . Once the acquirement closes , the entire Census team will transmigrate over to Fivetran and the Census brand name will finally be integrated into the Fivetran platform .

George Fraser , the co - founder and CEO of Fivetran , tell TechCrunch that the deal made sense for Fivetran for a raft of reasons . For one , customer have been ask Fivetran for a inverse ETL answer for years .

The company thought about modernise an offering of its own , going so far as to build a epitome . But Fraser said Fivetran pull in it would be a better use of resources to bring on a party that had already visualise it out instead .

“ Technically speaking , if you look at the computer code underneath [ these ] services , they ’re in reality pretty different , ” Fraser say . “ You have to figure out a passably different hardening of problems to do this . ”

Once Fivetran decided it made more sentiency to add together reverse ETL via an acquisition , Census was a natural pick , Fraser tell , because the two companies share many of the same customers and the two chopine are very similar stylistically .

“ citizenry who wish Fivetran , as compare to Informatica or building their own connectors , they are going to be people who also wish Census , ” Fraser say . “ The two products make broadly speaking similar philosophical pick , and so they tend to invoke to the same customers , which is very important when you ’re thinking about synergism . ”

It did n’t injure that the founding teams of Census and Fivetran go right smart back , either . Fraser said he met the Census team , which include chief operating officer Boris Jabes and Centennial State - father Anton Vaynshtok , during Y Combinator ’s 2013 wintertime plenty .

Fraser and his carbon monoxide - laminitis , Taylor Brown , were become through the YC program while Jabes and Vaynshtok were build Meldium , a password and account management system , that was assume by LogMeIn in 2014 . They all stay in signature and even peach about Census as a concept class before the society was base .

Now , close to a tenner later , everything is come under one ceiling .

“ We talked to the Census founders about their idea before they even started the company , and Taylor [ Brown ] and I joke at the time that it might finish up in an acquirement , because there ’s a bunch of synergy between the two things , ” Fraser said . “ In some shipway , this has been plump out , I think . ”
