Vietnamese EV startup VinFast is trying to get into the electric pickup truck secret plan , as it revealed a new concept called the VF Wild atCES 2024 in Las Vegas . The company annunciate it also plans to bug out sell its smallest EV , the VF3 , outside of Vietnam , aspreviously hinted .
It ’s gruelling to say much more about what VinFast has design for both vehicle , though . The truck will have mid - size pickup dimensions , and a pen up mid - logic gate to allow the five - ft bottom to turn into something functionally closer to an eight - pes bed ( when the rear seats are down ) . But the fellowship did n’t share its aspiration for range or pricing , or even when ( or if ) it plans to mass - acquire the thing . It ’s a CES construct car in the dead on target sense — down to the fact that the fellowship did not even have official icon of it quick at the time of its launch Tuesday .
The VF3 is aplucky footling EVthat VinFast announced in Vietnam earlier this year . It ’s a two - door metropolis railcar with limited reach and an low-priced price tag ( think sub-$20,000 ) . It has yet to ship in VinFast ’s home country , but the company now says it will sell the railcar globally . It did not say which land will be first , or share any other info about what a global launch would look like .
Developing a motortruck and globally launching a compact EV are n’t even the biggest things on VinFast ’s dental plate . The company is also attempt to build mill in North Carolina , Indonesia and India , and has multiple other models in the works .
If this all sound a small haphazard , then it ’s pretty in - character for VinFast . The young companionship — which is plump for by Vietnam ’s richest man , Pham Nhat Vuong — has been a piffling all over the place since its founding in 2017 .
VinFast originally built burning - engine fomite but quick pivoted to EVs , start with the VF8 SUV , which it rather quickly try bringing to the United States . That rollout has not gone well , as the VF8 was met with verypoor reviews . VinFast has struggled to sell the sport utility at scale in the U.S. The company recently pivot to workingwith principal to boost saleshere .
